About Tara Mathew

Tara MathewBy the age of 21, Tara Mathew had achieved more than most could ever dream of in a lifetime’s music career. As a teenager she had won numerous respected awards and aged only 15 she was selected to sing the opening song at Canada’s most prestigious national event, The Canada Games, following which her songs were constantly broadcast on national TV and radio.

Tara also became a ‘Musical Ambassador’ for the Canadian Government, which led to her performing at VIP events across the US, Mexico and Canada. She sang at Canada’s parliamentary building for the Governor General of Canada and she even shared the same stage as Celine Dion at the Pan-American games performing to an audience of 80,000 people.

To top all of this, Tara graduated from one of Canada’s leading music universities with the highest mark awarded in 40 years for operatic vocals, which led to her being offered 1 of only 10 places available worldwide each year at the prestigious Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

But it was at this point she encountered the voice of God telling her to give it all up to serve Him in mission. To give up her life’s dream of a career of singing and with such opportunities laid out before her, broke her heart, but she obediently followed God’s call and went to serve Him in some of the poorest parts of the world.

For the next 5 years, Tara lived in India working with YWAM serving in a range of areas from working in the slums with AIDS and leprosy victims to running an outreach coffee bar in Bangalore.

But then again God spoke to Tara (and her husband Jim, whom she had met and married whilst in India) and told her it was now time for them to go to Canada. For Tara, leaving this new life she had made in India was just as painful as it had been when God told her to give up music and move there 5 years earlier. But obediently, she again followed God’s call and moved to Toronto with her husband and young daughter Natasha.

Not knowing what was ahead, but after only a few weeks back in Canada, the unexpected happened and an amazing musical opportunity presented itself. First this took her back to India to perform at Asia’s largest televised Christmas concert and this immediately led to a record contract that brought her and her family to live in England.

Tara has now been sent back into mission with her music, only this time the mission field is the secular haunts of young people. Her ministry now takes God’s word through her songs directly into people’s homes through radio, TV and through her recordings, which are currently being played in 1,000 of the biggest night clubs across the country.

In addition to that, in just over 12 months Tara has sung to thousands at a packed Exeter City FC stadium, performed live to millions on BBC Radio by appearing on shows in Birmingham, Manchester, Lancashire, Liverpool, Cornwall and Devon. She has also sung live on Premier Radio, Cross Rhythms Radio, UCB Radio, Revelation TV, UCB TV, OHTV, Channel M and she has even been featured on the ITV evening News. Tara has also performed at prestigious venues such as celeb's favourites the Embassy Club in Mayfair,  West End's Chinawhite, The BBC Club W1 and supported such names as Lulu and Rick Astley at festivals over the summer.

The national secular press has also caught the buzz as she has been featured in national magazines including Pick Me Up, Full House, The Star, The Weekly News, and Music Week along with a great number of regional newspapers and Web articles.

Although Tara’s vision, along with that of her Record Label, Media Ministries, is to reach out into the world with her unique brand of Christian Pop music, Tara also has a desire to serve the church. Over the last year she has sung at numerous church outreach events, become an Advocate for the Christian charity Toybox, the Patron of World Christian Ministries, performed alongside Pam Rhodes, Rachel Gardner, Diane-Louise Jordan and has performed at both the Esher and Telford Christian Resource Exhibitions. She has also enjoyed quite a bit of Christian media coverage too as can be seen on the following pages.
